A patch of grass the size of a tennis court caught fire in Epsom as the heatwave continued yesterday.
Epsom firefighters were called to the grass fire at Richards Field, off Chessington Road, Epsom, at about 11.40am.
A fire station spokesman said: "It’s an open field but there is some long grass at the back that caught fire.
"We put it down to the hot weather, but it might have been started by a cigarette or something."
