Police are investigating the ‘suspicious appearance’ of two cash boxes discovered by a museum curator on Friday.
The cash boxes, both empty, were found by Jeremy Harte, curator of Bourne Hall, hidden at the edge of the museum grounds in Ewell.
Mr Harte said: "They were behind the brick wall at the edge of Bourne Hall where they were put in a dark corner.
"I was walking through the park and noticed two black boxes. It dawned on me they looked like cash boxes."
On Friday Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said on Facebook: "Officers are investigating the suspicious appearance of two empty cash boxes near to the park in Bourne Hall, Ewell.
"A member of Bourne Hall staff called police after he was told about the dumped boxes.
"PCSO Chris Wright and PCSO Steven Fairs attended and with help from response officer PC Sarah Mills the boxes were seized and an initial investigation was conducted."
