More families can put all their plastics and cartons in black recycling bins as the council makes changes to recycling across Epsom.

But concerns have already been raised that the wheelie bins are not big enough to fit in the extra recyclable items.

Resident C Rodrigues asked: "Has the council given a thought to how quickly this black bin is going to fill now with the latest additions?

"Quite frankly just a fortnightly collection is not enough to contain this bin. Perhaps going back to weekly would surely sort the looming problem."

A council spokesman said they were rolling the recycling changes out across Epsom by September and would monitor the situation going forward.

He said: "It was decided based on recycling levels at the moment that there was satisfactory space in bins for plastics as long as they are ‘washed and squashed’."

The council advises people to wash or rinse food packaging to keep smells down and squash bottles and boxes to make the most of their bin.

People are asked to only start recycling all plastics and cartons when a label is stuck on their black bin.
