An extractor fan that caught alight in a Teddington home was so badly damaged an investigation into the incident cannot be carried out.
The device caught fire in a bathroom of a home in St Winifords Road just before 4pm yesterday.
Watch manager Dan Wareham said: "By the time we arrived everyone had been evicted and they had a working smoke alarm which helped.
"There was damage to the ceiling. The ceiling had to be removed."
Two fire engines attended the scene where fire fighters used breathing appartus.
