I'm guessing that if I were to drive into a public park in broad daylight and tip half a ton of rubbish onto the grass whilst under the watchful gaze of Council officers, press photographers and the police, I would be arrested and prosecuted and have to pay a hefty fine.
I saw in your story of the 17th June that the Council sent a group of travellers "packing" from Lloyd Park ('Threatening travellers sent packing from Lloyd Park by Croydon Council'). It was also reported that the group "damaged the site and left behind heaps of rubbish".
Apparently the clean-up cost reached £25000 and, over the last year, the Council has spent £128000 clearing up after travellers.
This is tax-payer's money - yours and mine - so, can I assume that the full force of the law will be applied and financial recompense sought?
If not, I'd be interested to hear from the appropriate authorities why not.
