A tribunal investigating a GP accused of taking £100,000 from an NHS-funded out-of-hours service will resume on Wednesday.

The investigation in Dr Ravi Sondhi stalled last week after one of the panel members was forced to step down, after allegedly failing to disclose he was a director of a Lincolnshire based out-of-hours service and other limited companies.

A new panellist has been appointed and evidence in the case will continue to be heard from Wednesday.

Dr Sondhi allegedly abused his position as financial director of Croydoc, which was set up in 1995 to treat almost 1m patients in Croydon, Sutton, Kingston and Merton.

It is alleged the 52-year-old was often uncontactable at his home 125 miles away in Fakenham, Norfolk, when he was supposed to be on duty, forcing patients to go to Accident and Emergency.

Dr Sondhi, a GP at Portland Medical Centre in South Norwood also owned a string of care homes, he denies misconduct charges.

The hearing at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester is unlikely to finish before its deadline of July 26, and is likely to be adjourned to a future date on Friday.

Dr Sondhi could be struck off the medical register or suspended if his fitness to practice is found to be impaired by misconduct.
