A new charity has been set up to keep the community spirit alive in the wake of the Olympics.

Earlsfield Charity Events was set up in January 2013 by five people living in the area.

The idea is to raise money for charities based in the area through fun events involving the whole neighbourhood.

A ceilidh was their first event and raised £2,000 for St George's Hospital Charity last month.

They will next be organising a Rockaoke in September where participants can sing with backing from a live band.

An Earlsfield Community Street Party is in the pipeline as well as a Christmas event.

The committee has expanded to seven members and is inviting others to get involved.

Mick Armstrong, chairman, said: "We set up Earlsfield Charity Events, following the wonderful community scenes we witnessed across the UK last year for the Queens Jubilee and Olympic games.

"We were keen to keep the community spirit alive in Earlsfield which is already a tight knit community but also seek to help a number of local charities through fun and entertaining events across year."

The Rockaoke is set to take place on September 21 in Aboyne Community Centre, Deeside Road, Earlsfield. Tickets cost £10.
