More than 15 'ma'ams' celebrated the births of their own little princes and princesses at St Helier and Epsom Hospitals on the same day as the royal birth.

A total of 17 bonny babies were born at the two hospitals on Tuesday with one arriving at 4.27pm - just three minutes after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to the prince.

There were ten births at St Helier, the first just after midnight and the last at 4.27pm.

Among the mums was Carshalton Beeches woman Karen Wilde who gave birth to 6lb 13oz baby Marni.

She said: "We’re very pleased to share a royal birthday, it’s nice. A big thank you to the midwives – they were unbelievable."

Head of midwifery Sally Sivas said: "It was a shift like every other for us midwives, as every new baby is special to us, royal or not.

"We are happy to announce the safe delivery of an above average number of babies."
