The cast of Rose Theatre director Stephen Unwin’s final play in Kingston includes actors from Father Ted and Les Miserables, writes Megan Titley.

Among the cast are Patrick Drury, who played shopkeeper John O'Leary in Father Ted, as well as acting in King Lear, Twelfth Night and Hamlet.

Kelly Hunter played Mme Victurien in the Liam Neeson film of Les Miserables, and acted in Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Vanity Fair. Florence Hall acted in Holby City and Doctors.

Artistic director, Stephen Unwin is directing Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts as his final production at the Rose Theatre.

The play tells the story of Oswald returning home to honour his dead father as his mother begins to feel the presence of ghosts from the past.

This is the second Ibsen play Unwin has translated, following on from Lady From The Sea in 2012, which starred Joely Richardson, and the seventh Ibsen play he has directed.

Stage designer Simon Higlett has taken inspiration from Edvard Munch stage designs for the set which have not been used since 1906. The production will overlap with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Munch best known for the painting The Scream.

The production will be a collaboration between the Rose and English Touring Theatre.

Ghosts will play at the Rose from September 19 until October 12 followed by a six week UK tour.
