STEVE Lomas has put Millwall’s opening day defeat on Saturday down to missed chances in a poor first half display.

Ed Upson snatched an 88th minute winner for Championship new-boys Yeovil after the likes of Steve Morison, Andy Keogh and James Henry had all missed good chances to give Millwall the lead earlier in the game.

And although Lomas admitted Glovers keeper Marek Stech had kept the visitors in the game, it was Millwall’s own fault they had not won.

“It was very hard to take but we’ve only ourselves to blame,” the manager said.

“We probably had five decent chances and you’ve got to take them.

“Credit to their goalkeeper who made a couple of good saves, but the calibre of chances we got, you have to take one.

“In the first half nobody wanted to put their foot on the ball.

“It wasn’t until Nicky Bailey came on we started to find some rhythm.

“But when you don’t take those chances you are open to the sucker punch.

“A shot from the edge of the box unopposed is not good enough really, it should have been a 0-0.”

Lomas saw his side improve after half-time with Bailey’s 49th minute introduction for Josh Wright the catalyst.

The Millwall boss saw Bailey’s display as the main positive from the game, but the lack of composure when in possession was a big issue.

“We just didn’t get anybody to get their foot on the ball and pass it first half,” Lomas admitted.

“It is alright winning the ball but we didn’t use it until that second half.

“Bailey looked good when he came on.

“He played a good through ball to Stevie Morison and he nearly got on the end of it, similarly to James Henry.

“There were some positives like that but there is a long way to go.

“We will get the players who came in late and we will get better.”

Lomas confirmed the club are still looking to add more quality to their side before the end of the transfer window.

He said: “Of course we are still looking to do some stuff in the transfer market.

“If we can find someone to improve the team then I will speak to the chairman and get his thoughts on it.

“Yes, we would still like to improve the team.

“I haven’t decided about the side for Tuesday (v AFC Wimbledon) but we will have a chat about that Monday.

“We can understand the fans’ frustration.
