A busker is in with a chance of hitting the big time and is hoping for the support of his home town.

Sutton singer Ryan Anthony has made it to the final of the Mayor of London's Gigs: Big Busk competition, which gives contestants the chance to win a prestigious spot busking on the London Underground for a year.

Mr Anthony, 20, is one of just 250 finalists out of thousands of entries to get the chance to perform at some of London's busiest spots, including Waterloo station, in a bid to win the votes of London's public and scoop one of the prizes.

The University of Kent, Canterbury, student has a chance of winning the overall competition and the best original song category.

He said: "I get stage fright a bit at gigs but when I'm busking it's different because people haven't paid to see you and when they stop and listen to you it's because they've made a choice.

"It means you have to really up your game and I enjoy that.

"I entered the competition because it's good to enter things like this when I have the chance and now I'm through to the actual busking stage, which is brilliant.

"This week I'm performing at Waterloo station which could be amazing."
