A baby given just a couple of years to live will get the chance to spend precious moments in a renovated garden after a charity volunteered to offer its services.

Frankie DaSilva suffers from a rare form of osteoporosis, only diagnosed in two other children in the UK, which effects his bones preventing them from growing.

The 18-month-old boy has also been forced to have a tracheostomy and is constantly on oxygen.

Mother Nicola Dasilva, 25, and father Ian, 29, of Morden, offer around the clock care, and on Tuesday were delighted to welcome staff from charity WellChild who arrived to create a peaceful garden setting for Frankie to enjoy.

Mrs Dasilva said: "We have recently been told we can care for him at home.

"The property is a council home and the garden is our responsibility and we have just been flat out caring for him.

"The charity is doing the garden up so he can spend time outside in the fresh air."

While the long term prognosis for Frankie is bleak, Mrs Dasilva said he had already defied doctor’s predictions in making it beyond his first birthday.

She said: "In November I was in hospital and they told us to say goodbye as he was very unlikely to make it to Christmas.

"He is still very very ill but he is fighting hard."
