A charity that provides cycle training to disabled people in Croydon will receive a £10,000 Team London grant.

Wheels for Wellbeing is one of 10 organisations receiving funding by Team London, which is the Mayor of London’s volunteering programme for London, for local initiatives which demonstrate innovative ways of encouraging volunteering.

Since 2007 Wheels for Wellbeing has supported thousands of participants, providing regular off-road cycle sessions with a wide variety of standard and non-standard cycles for disabled and able-bodied cyclists.

The funding will be used to train volunteers in the specialist field of inclusive cycling, deliver more cycling sessions across the capital and make services accessible for participants.

Boris Johnson said: “Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joys of cycling and this fantastic project. I hope Londoners will come forward to volunteer and learn more about inclusive cycling. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, try something different and do something for London. If you haven’t already, go to the website and get involved.”
