A thug left a man needing stitches in his head after he repeatedly smashed him in the face with a bottle during an attack in an Indian restaurant.

The victim, who has asked not to be named, was in the Noor Jahan restaurant in Brighton Road having a quiet drink with friends when he said two noisy people entered at around midnight on Friday, August 16.

The victim said: "They were being really noisy, we couldn't hear each other talking. I asked them to calm down politely and then about 10 minutes later a man came over and threatened me. He asked me not to talk to them or complain about them again and I said I wouldn't.

"About 15 minutes later I was attacked. I remember being punched around the face a few times and then I was struck around the head with a beer bottle. I was semi concious by the end of it and I'm told people had to pull him off me otherwise I think he would have carried on."

The attacker and his companion are believed to have fled in the direction of Sutton train station. Police were called and escorted the victim as he was taken to St Helier hospital in an ambulance where he received six stitches to a gash in his forehead.

He added: "I have nerve damage that means I can't open my left eye, which is the worst part, and it's broken my glasses so I'll need to get a new pair.

"There were lots of nice people around who helped me afterwards so it is nice to know that there are good people out there.

!I think this was just a very angry person. He just looked like a normal person who could be sitting in an office on Monday morning.

"His behaviour didn't really map out with how he looked - he was well turned out, he didn't look like a rough type. He just seemed really intense and angry.

"It's not going to stop me going out or anything like that. I think I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think in situations like this in future I will just leave people alone and go away."

The attacker is white, around 5ft 9in, of average build and has dark hair that is short around the sides and tufty on top. He was wearing a white or light purple top with a pattern on it.

The woman was taller than the man, well built with long, dark hair and wore a dark top and skirt.
