A taekwondo champion and her partner missed out on both smashing world records this week - but got engaged instead.

Lisa Dennis and Chris Pitman of Dalmally Road, Addiscombe, were hoping to be crowned the world’s most powerful couple on Monday, by each beating world records for smashing 1,000 roof tiles.

Mr Pitman grabbed the men's record, by destroying 1000 tiles in just over 51 seconds, trimming three seconds off the previous best time for the challenge.

But his now fiancée missed out on the women's record after destroying the tiles in 1 min 46 seconds. just 16 seconds shy of the 90 second record.

They smashed through tiles stacked in piles of eight.

Ms Dennis said: "I'm very sad, I can't explain how I feel but I will be doing it again."

But the couple did have good news, after it was revealed on Blue Peter, where the record attempt was broadcast today, that Mr Pitman had asked Lisa to marry him that day.

The couple carried out their attempt at Ravenswood School, Bromley.
