Mountains and lakes may be beautiful but there are surprising treasures in our own back yard as people taking part in next month's Round the Borough Walk will discover.

The walk, which takes between six and nine hours, will take ramblers through some of the most attractive open spaces around Epsom and Ewell.

These include Epsom Downs, Epsom Common and Nonsuch Park. Walkers often use the event to raise money for charities of their choice. Last year over 100 people took part and raised £3,000 for charity.

Councillor Jan Mason, who chairs the council's leisure committee, said: "Whilst Round the Borough Walk is a chance to get out and about and discover Epsom & Ewell's plentiful and stunning open spaces, it also aims to inspire you to get active and challenge yourself to achieve a milestone. Don't miss out on this opportunity to discover something new in the borough."

Those taking part are reminded to wear sensible footwear and to be prepared for the weather. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Bikes, dogs and rollerblades are not permitted for the walk.

The walk will start at Horton Country Park car park between 8.30-9.30am on Saturday, September 7. Register at www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/rbw or call 01372 732000.
