Two talented teenagers will showcase their work at London Fashion Week after making it through to the final of a competition for young designers.

Jayde Yankey, 17, and Sarah Simpson, 18, are two of 20 finalists who will go head to head in the Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) junior awards this year.

FAD is a creative charity supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to bridge the gap between education and the fashion industry.

The two designers, both from Croydon College, will present their clothes at the Freemasons’ Hall in Covent Garden on Tuesday, September 17.

The winner of the competition, which is in its ninth year, will secure a design placement with project sponsors George at Asda.

The FAD junior awards started with a series of workshops for about 100 16-19 year olds from across 19 inner-city boroughs of London.

George brand director, Fiona Lambert, said “Earlier this year, our partnership with FAD won the business in the community award for work inspiration.

“It is great to be recognised for the work we’ve done with the young people: inspiring the next generation of fashion talent.

“At George we’re passionate about giving those with less fortunate backgrounds the opportunity to learn invaluable fashion skills and this is why we’re launching the 2013-2014 FAD George mentoring scheme.”
