The person killed by a train at South Croydon station yesterday is thought to be a local 37-year-old man.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a train travelling through the station at 5.10pm.
British Transport Police said the man's family had been informed.
The incident caused severe disuption across the south London rail network, no trains running through East Croydon for two hours.
Rail firm Southern said it was forced to switch off all lines running from East Croydon for two hours. It apologised for the disruption.
The 37-year-old was struck by the 4.47pm service from London Victoria to Hastings.
Police are not treating his death as suspicious.
London Ambulance Service said it was called to South Croydon station at 5.12pm today to reports of a person under a train.
A spokeswoman said: "We sent a motorcycle responder, an ambulance crew, London’s Air Ambulance and a duty officer.
"Sadly, one person was pronounced dead at the scene by the air ambulance doctor."
