Well guess what: we get back into the swing of things after the summer break, and in our absence find that plans for an incinerator on our doorstep have been approved by Boris Johnson's deputy.
Not Johnson himself - he is too cowardly, and knows the views of the residents around here to take the decision on himself.
Make no mistake. Despite all the "information" and "reassurances" from official bodies, the evidence is there that there will be increased pollution, decrease in wildlife habitat, increased traffic, health impacts and under capacity of burning unsorted waste. Our Metropolitan Open Land and promised parkland will be delayed even further.
And if it does go through, let the 85 metre high chimneys pumping out pollutants be a memorial to the cowardly Conservative politicians in City Hall, and Lib Dems of Sutton, who have consistently ignored the views of their constituents across London. Remember this.
But there is still hope. The Stop the Incinerator campaign are continuing to fight against this monstrosity and deserve your support. The local Labour Party continue to consistently represent the voices and feelings of local people. Work with us.
The fight continues.

vice-chairman of Carshalton & Wallington Labour Party
