Two pairs of sole-mates will put on their walking boots and embark on a 50km journey along the Thames to raise money for Princess Alice Hospice.

Nora Dodds, 48, from Walton, Nicki Cuddington, 50, from Hersham, Anne Goddard, 56, from Staines, and Liz Goddard, 25, from Cippenham, will walk along the river’s towpath from Putney to Runneymede as part of the Thames Path Challenge.

The team will head through the London boroughs of Wandsworth, Richmond and Kingston before passing through Thames Ditton, Molesey and Walton.

The group, whose team name is Sole Mates, will be among 2,000 people taking on the challenge on September 14, which expected to take between seven and 12 hours.

Mrs Dodds said: “We’ve all been out training. I think I underestimated how hard it would be.

“I went out on a training walk with a friend, we walked 16 miles to Kingston and back and it was harder than I thought.”

The group chose to walk for Princess Alice Hospice because they all know people who have been cared for by hospices and wanted to support the one local to them.
