A manhunt has been launched after a man was spotted brandishing a kitchen knife in Sutton's Manor Park.
Police were called to the town centre park by a member of the public who spotted the knifeman shortly after 1pm.
Officers came from the nearby police station but the man had vanished.
A police spokesman said the man had not threatened anyone or approached anyone with the knife but added: "You can't go around carrying a knife in public."
Officers are hunting for the man who is around 25- to 30-years-old, white, scruffy, has a beard or facial hair and was wearing a white polo-shirt with blue stripes and baggy trousers.
If anyone sees the suspect they are advised not to approach him but to call police on 999 immediately.
