'These boys don't do acoustic' - Jamie Oliver bigs up Croydon based band Brightlight City
A rock band had the time of their lives as they rocked out with TV chef Jamie Oliver last weekend.
Brightlight City, who are regular performers at Croydon’s Scream Lounge, were performing at The Big Feastival, a music festival organised by Jamie Oliver and Blur’s Alex James.
The band came second in Jamie Oliver’s Summer Jam competition after they were beaten by band Fickle Friends.
But coming second didn’t stop the band from being invited to the festival, where they were introduced on stage by the TV chef himself.
The band who is made up of brothers, Jamie and Justin Giarraputo, from Epsom, Joe Edwards and Dan Stubberfield from Carshalton, and Australian Jono Staunton were originally meant to play an acoustic set.
But Oliver had different ideas and told the stage manager “these boys don’t do acoustic” and had them playing a full rock set.
The band’s management said the boys were ‘chuffed’ with how the day went and are already looking forward to next year when they are playing the main stage.
