The borough's top cop will be cycling 325 miles for charity.
Sutton Borough Commander Guy Ferguson will be raising money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care when he takes part in the bike ride from Croydon to its twin town of Arnhem on 17 September.
Detective chief superintendent Ferguson will be travelling to France and then across Belgium and into the Netherlands, arriving at Arnhem Town Hall after three days of riding.
The ride marks Operation Market Garden in September 1944 which involved 30,000 airborne troops landing behind enemy lines to capture key bridges in Holland to speed the Allied advance into Germany. However, the bridge at Arnhem proved a ‘Bridge too Far’ and ended with the evacuation of British troops.
Mr Ferguson said he was looking forward to the ride. He said: "The ride helps to mark our respects to the epic sacrifices made during Operation Market Garden whilst raising money for the Marie Curie charity."
