The team at Elmbridge Museum are inviting children and parents to retrace the steps of local cinema pioneer Cecil Hepworth.

The event, entitled Movie Magic, will dive into the past of the famous director and producer and allow children to make a peep-hole movie box to take home.

Hepworth, one of the founders of the British film industry, set up the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse in Walton in 1896 and in 1904 his studios produced Alice in Wonderland, the largest film project attempted at the time.

Councillor Jan Fuller, cabinet members of leisure and culture, says: “Cecil Hepworth was instrumental in developing the cinematographic industry and has left an invaluable artistic heritage in the borough.

“He was a visionary who turned his dreams to reality. Do come along to learn more about his achievements and have fun making your own movie box.”

Movie Magic is part of a series of family fun days run by Elmbridge Museum each month.

Booking is not necessary, but the day will operate on a first come, first served basis and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
