Two students from Croydon have been selected for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) scholarship programme.
Rienkje Attoh from Crystal Palace and Mawusime Blewuada from Thornton Heath, are among just 10 students from around the UK, to be awarded scholarships that assists talented people in need of financial support to study a post-graduate course in film, television or games.
Miss Attoh is one of three recipients of the first ever Prince William Scholarship in Film, Television and Games, supported by BAFTA and Warner Bros. These new scholarships are awarded in the name of the Duke of Cambridge in his role as President of BAFTA.
Miss Attoh, 31, has been awarded £10,000 towards an MA in Producing at the National Film and Television School (NFTS).
She said: "This scholarship will not only help me financially but will give me the opportunity to meet and learn from some of the people I admire most in Film and Television. I am so grateful for the award and incredibly excited about my future."
Miss Blewuada, 29, who received a BAFTA scholarship was awarded £7,500 to study for an MA in 3D Computer Animation at Bournemouth University.
She said: "I am absolutely over the moon and feel incredibly honoured and grateful to the panel to have been chosen."
As well as the money towards their course fees for a year, scholars will also receive mentoring support from BAFTA members and free access to BAFTA events.
In return, the scholarship recipients will share their learning experiences on BAFTA’s online learning channel BAFTA Guru, and participate in future BAFTA outreach to young people.
