Families, cyclists and dog walkers came together for a day of activities including BMX jumps and Tai Chi on Sunday.

About a thousand people turned out to the action-packed Nonsuch Park Awareness Day, which deteriorated as bad weather set in.

An Epsom Council spokesman said: "It was a nice family affair with all the people who use the park showing it off.

"There were lots of dog walkers, cyclists and people with young children. You could see the youngsters having a great time."

Epsom’s Mayor Colin Taylor came along and sampled freshly pressed apple juice at a stall run by Epsom Apples.

Tudor actors playing Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and a couple of pages raised the park’s new Green Flag, a national award recognising it as one of the best green spaces in the country.
