Crystal Palace will not appeal against Kagisho Dikgacoi’s red card he received against Manchester United.

The South African was given a straight red card on Saturday after he upended Ashley Young just outside the penalty area.

Referee Jon Moss gave a penalty though and gave the midfielder his marching orders despite heavy protestations from the Palace team.

There were rumours Ian Holloway was going to appeal the decision, but the Croydon Guardian has been told the club will not ask for the red card to be overturned.

Yesterday co-chairman Stephen Browett wrote on internet fans forum the BBS about the decision not to appeal the red card.

He said: "The club has decided not to appeal the red card. This decision has been made by the football people at the club, not the owners.

"They know how these things work and if they had thought it would be successful they would have done it. We now have to move on."

It means the 28-year-old will miss the Eagles next game against Swansea City, which paves the way for new signing Adlene Guedioura to make his home debut for the club.

The ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder came on as a second half substitute against Manchester United and said after the game he was looking forward to giving everything to the club.

“I think against 11 men it would have been a different game, but we showed our teams spirit and we deserved more than we got,” he said.

“This Sunday we have a home against Swansea, which is going to be important. Hopefully, we will do better.

“I can see there is a great team spirit and a great manager here. Hopefully, we can show the fans good things.”

Defender Joel Ward, pictured left, looks set to miss out on Sunday after Ian Holloway revealed the right back had a calf tear.

The former Portsmouth man has been one of Palace’s best players this season, winning 84 per cent of his tackles so far this campaign.
