Inimitable post-rock instrumentalists 65daysofstatic will be in Kingston for an album launch show at McClusky’s tonight.
The Sheffield four-piece will be showcasing tracks from their new record Wild Light – and those heading to Thursday’s gig will be the first to witness a new dawn in the band’s legendary live set.
“We couldn’t squeeze anymore on to our old live rig,” says Paul Wolinski, one of 65dos’s founding members.
“We’ve rebuilt the set from the ground up, and Kingston will be the first show we introduce that.”
According to Wolinski, Wild Light marks something of a departure from the band’s previous releases.
“We’ve tried to never make the same album twice,” he says. “Those albums still exist for those people who prefer the old 65.
“It’s [Wild Light] relatively stripped down for a 65 album. We wanted to make it simpler without losing any of our urgency.”
The need for change came about due to the group’s own satisfaction with their previous album, We Were Exploding Anyway.
“The last proper record we did – that felt like the record we’d been trying to write for the first decade of being in a band,” says Wolinski.
“But it also felt like an end point. It didn’t feel like we wanted to stop.
"We were looking for a new thing and we’ve only just got there but it bodes well for the future.”
Those looking to dance the night away after the bands can get in for £4/5 and enjoy DJ's playing classic indie floor fillers until 2am.
