With 78 days until Christmas, preparations have already begun for this year’s Walton Christmas Festival of Light.

Much like previous years, the festival will include a Christmas market filled with stalls, rides and entertainment, the annual lantern parade and The Heart’s Christmas lights switch on.

The Walton Business Group (WBG), who organise the festival, have been handed a grant of £975 from the RC Sherriff Trust to help with the costs of the artistic creations within the parade.

Artist Donagh Curwen has already hosted workshops in schools across the town and several businesses have confirmed their sponsorship for the event.

Sarah-Jane Shellard, WBG director and event organiser, said: “Further funding is still needed and there is lots to do but we have got this year’s event off to a great start.

“We are busy working with the Heart and other WBG members to ensure another fun-filled event takes place in Walton, launching the 2013 festive season for our town.”

This year’s festival of light will take place on Saturday, November 30.
