Merton police are set to deliver Christmas hampers to the poorest families and individuals in the borough.
The project which will help 500 of the most needy in the borough, comes after the police met with
Doxa Deo Church to see if they can assist those struggling financially.
Hampers will include ingredients to enjoy a complete Christmas lunch, combined with toys and presents.
Yvette Stanley, one of Merton council’s chief directors, along with Chief Superintendent Darren Williams will decide who will receive the hampers.
Police will be asking schools across the borough to hold a non-uniform day to help raise money for the hampers.
A special evening of classical music called 'The Merton Messiah' will give 100 people the opportunity to experience an adapted rendition of Handel’s Messiah, based on life stories from Merton.
It will take place at the Warehouse, 13 Theed Street on November 21 and will be performed by the London Festival Orchestra and the Liquid Strings Chamber Choir.
Tickets will be £100 and all proceeds will go towards the hamper project, while an auction will take place after the evening of music.
