More jobs and lower fuel bills are part of a pledge Sutton Council has made to the people of the borough.
The council became the first 'One Planet' borough when it signed up to a commitment to sustainable living in 2009.
This week it renewed its commitment to the plan and targeted a significant cut in office and domestic carbon dioxide production - particularly through the replacement of old boilers, something the council helps will bring business and employment to the area.
It met on Thursday to set a range of aims covering fuel, land use, health, the local economy and more and targets to meet by 2017, 2025 and 2050.
Key aims include a 50 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide from council buildings and a cut in waste from council offices of 38 per cent.
Councillor Jill Whitehead, chairwoman of the council's environment and neighbourhoods committee, said: "Sutton is absolutely determined to bring jobs to the area, tackle fuel poverty and work towards ensuring a sustainable future and these measures will help us to achieve those aims.
"We are proud of the commitment we have made and of the steps we have already taken.
"However, we are aware that there is a great deal more to be done and that we need the support of individuals, businesses and Government to achieve all of our targets."
