Hundreds of school children are taking part in a new citizen scheme being organised by Croydon police.

The Junior Citizen scheme started on Monday September 30 and runs until October 11.

Year five and six pupils will take part in a number of different scenarios which will help them to keep safe.

Pupils will be given advice on how to stay safe on buses and police officers will carry out live scenarios to teach students about stranger dangers.

The London Fire Brigade and Croydon Council are also helping out with the scheme.

Teri Smith, from Croydon’s Safer Transport Team, who has organised the scheme said: “It is such a fantastic and worthwhile event for the children.

“It helps to make them aware of some really important safety issues, especially ahead of them moving on to senior school in the not-so-distant future.”
