Passengers escape burning car and run off after dramatic crash in New Addington
Two men escaped a burning car - and the police - after their vehicle flipped over, landed on its wheels and then burst into flames.
Shortly before midnight last night (Friday) a green Daewoo Lanos lost control in King Henry’s Drive, New Addington, and rolled several times before landing upright on a small green space and bursting into flames.
The passengers, described as two black males, escaped through the windows and ran off.
Police, firefighters, paramedics and the Metropolitan Police helicopter were called to the accident, which was witnessed by several residents.
Steve Mewett, green watch crew manager at New Addington fire station, said: “When we arrived, the car was 100 per cent alight, but thankfully no one was injured.
“Witnesses said the car rolled a couple of times, landed on all four wheels, then set alight straight away.
“The two men have got out through the windows and run off.”
Despite the efforts of police on the ground and in the air, the two men have yet to be found.
A Met Police spokesman said anyone with information about the crash should call 101.
