A flat was set left damaged by flames in a suspected arson attack in the early hours of this morning.
Firefighters were called to the blaze in the Springfield Estate, Union Road, Clapham, at 12.45am today.
Police are treating the incident as arson with intent.
It is believed the ground floor area outside the flat was set alight with flames spreading to the first floor of the four storey block.
The windows of the flat smashed because of the heat and people living on the first floor were sent to hospital with smoke inhalation.
It was left 50 per cent damaged following the fire, with fire crews leaving the scene at 3.15am.
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: "The positive thing was everyone had smoke alarms in the block, everyone had got out.
"The gentleman living in the flat was out visiting relatives, it could have been a different story."
