A teenager welcomed the New Year with a broken jaw after he told his attacker he was not invited to a party.

Thug Daniel Smith, 19, from Bishopsford Road, Morden, attacked the 16-year-old who was on his way to a party in Gander Green Lane on New Year’s Eve 2012.

Smith approached the youth, who he knew, and said he wanted to go to the party too.

However, the youngster phoned the organiser who said Smith was not invited so he told him the party was cancelled.

Smith took the rejection badly and punched the youngster in the face so hard it broke his jaw just after 11pm in Rose Hill Park West.

Smith was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to GBH on September 17 at Southwark Crown Court.

He had to pay costs of £1,856 of which £750 went to his victim in compensation.
