A cannabis factory was uncovered and three people arrested during raids on two houses in Roundshaw yesterday.

Officers raided two houses in Hurricane Way; one of which was found to have a cannabis factory with 29 plants growing in bedrooms.

A sophisticated system of lamps and ventilation had been set up to help the plants grow and the loft was being used to grow baby plants and dry leaves.

A woman, 45, and an 18-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of cultivation with intent to supply and have been bailed to return to police at a later date.

Beddington South Sergeant Paul Cole said: "Residents should not have to put up with drugs related activities on their doorstep.

"Drugs are a blight on local communities and only tend to encourage more crime.

"We want to continue to encourage residents to help us and we will continue to be robust and relentless in the pursuit of anyone involved in drugs related crime to make our communities safer."

In the other house officers raided they arrested a 37-year-old woman after a significant amount of unopened perfume and a suspect mobile phone were seized.

She has been bailed pending further enquiries.
