Through the Sutton Guardian, I would like to thank all those residents in Belmont, that have responded to my call for feedback in response to my recent leaflet regarding the proposed redevelopment of the Henderson Hospital.

It is my firm belief that a state-of-the-art medical centre on the existing Henderson Hospital site is completely out of character, given the surroundings.

However I would have no problem if the development only consisted of detached, or semi-detached houses.

According to the draft plans, some of the weaker trees on the development would be cut down and replaced with new trees.

I see, so Sutton Council (who are also supposed to be on a nice little earner) can cut down trees when it suits them, but not when residents complain about those trees that are completely overgrown.

The thing that worries me the most, apart from the increased traffic, is that the proposed new medical centre (subject to approval) would have an on-site pharmacy. This could have serious implications for the Chemist, and all the other shops in Belmont Village.

On the face of it nobody has really looked in to this project. If they had, then the problems would have been all to easy to see. It's not rocket science.

The Conservative ward councillors were all too quick to support this development. They now have some serious explaining to do, especially as they like to promote the village.

Most people agree the best possible place to build a new state-of-the-art medical centre, would be on the existing Sutton Hospital site. This is something I called for in my leaflet.

My greatest fear is that this land will be sold of for a housing property development. Something we definitely do not need. Wherever this new centre is built it must not include an on-site pharmacy.

Only recently, and much to the anger of local residents, Guildford Council rather spinelessly gave in to bully-boy developers in selling off green belt land for a 400 house development. And all this with around 1 million empty homes throughout the UK.

Admittedly, the Sutton Hospital site is not on green belt land, but I do not trust Sutton Council one inch.
