Thornton Heath's Lorna Simpson prepares for life after the X Factor
Croydon’s first X Factor casualty has said the best is yet to come as she looks to bounce back from her first round exit of the live stages.
Lorna Simpson, 26, of Thornton Heath, found herself in the bottom two in the first weekend of live shows after her rendition of So Emotional by Whitney Houston on Saturday night.
The singer was up against fellow over 25 contestant Shelley Smith, who received the lowest number of votes, in a sing off on Sunday night.
It was down to the judges who they wanted to keep and after Sharon Osbourne, Miss Simpson’s mentor, abstained from voting, Louis Walsh and Nicole Sherzinger both decided to boot out the Croydon singer.
The university student, who studies at the Fairfield School of Business in Croydon, was the bookies favourite to be the first act to be eliminated from the show.
Miss Simpson told the Croydon Guardian last week she would relish the underdog tag and now she is repeating her determination to succeed in the music industry.
The former Selsdon High and Croydon College pupil said she wants to get into the recording studio as soon as possible and even hinted she would like to be a TV panellist in the future.
She said: "I was pretty upset on Sunday night but I am a positive person and I knew that I was going, I kind of knew it was going to be me, I just had a feeling.
"I feel like I deserved longer. I know who I am and I think I am a pop star in my own right.
"I probably didn’t get the air time or exposure that I needed in front of them millions. Hopefully they will remember me and hopefully I can go onto big things."
She added: "It was an incredible experience. It didn’t even feel real to be honest. I am still on a high really and I think it will take a couple of days to sink in.
"I am a person who doesn’t give up. I just want to get recording now, I write music as well so I want to do some originals."
Croydon still has two acts left in the competition, with lively boy band Rough Copy and talented teen Hannah Barrett vying for a place in the next round this weekend.
