Manhunt launched after Croydon teen's killer absconds from mental health unit
A manhunt is under way after a man convicted of the murder of a Croydon teenager absconded from a mental health centre.
Lerone Michael Boye of Beckton, was jailed for 28 years last December, after being found guilty of killing Kelvin Chibueze in Ilford on August 15, 2011.
The 17-year-old who lived in Underwood, New Addington, was chased and stabbed after a fight broke out during a private party at the Arteflex Club in Illford.
Mr Chibueze, who had been heard to complain that he couldn't breath, collapsed in a car park just off Ilford High Street.
A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a single stab wound to the heart.
Police say Boye, 27, absconded from the John Howard Centre in Kenworthy Road, Homerton, at about 2pm yesterday.
He is described as a black man, approximately 5ft 10ins tall of a slim build and short black hair.
He has a horseshoe shaped scar on his right cheek and a goatee beard.
He was last seen wearing grey jogging bottoms and grey/blue sweatshirt with a grey vest over the top and is known to have links to the Ilford area.
The public are advised not to approach Boye but call 999 if seen. Anyone with information about Boye's whereabouts can also call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
