Dog abandoned at pet grooming salon in Coulsdon
A one-year-old dog appears to have been dumped by her owner at a grooming salon.
The West Highland White terrier called Milly was taken to Mishko and Shampoo pet groomers in Chipstead Valley Road, Coulsdon, on Friday morning, but despite enquiring what time to pick her up, the woman who dropped her at the salon never came back to collect her.
Staff have repeatedly tried to contact the woman using the details she provided, but to no avail and Milly does not have a microchip.
A spokesman for the salon said: "We had an appointment with a customer and at 10am she came in and dropped off Milly. We told her to come back to collect her at 12pm, but we waited until 5.30pm and no one came.
"We tried the number but it was unavailable and the address didn't add up. We waited on Saturday but still nothing."
Milly was taken to Wingrave Veterinary in Sutton, who cared for her until Tuesday when she was collected by Westie Rescue.
A spokeswoman for the vet said they could not comment on the case due to client confidentiality.
The salon spokesman added: "The vet says Milly has a urinary condition that makes her wet herself when she sees someone new or gets excited, maybe that is the reason she has been left."
The salon have reported the incident to the RSPCA.
A spokeswoman for the RSPCA said: "We are very grateful to this grooming parlour for taking care of this poor dog, who would have been in dire straits otherwise with no one to feed, house or love her.
"Pet owners have a duty under the law to look after the animals in their care and provide for all their needs.
"We urge anyone who comes across an animal who appears to have been dumped or mistreated in any way to get in touch with us on 0300 1234 999."
