Merton’s Friends of the Earth set up in Wimbledon’s town centre to protest against the controversial issue of fracking.
Members gathered in Wimbledon’s town centre on Saturday, October to talk to residents about the dangers of fracking which involves drilling into the earth with a high-pressure water mixture to get oil.
The group used the occasion to call on Merton Council to formally declare itself "frack free" and to openly oppose the practice.
Auriel Glanville, co-ordinator of Merton Friends of the Earth, said: "Fracking produces more dirty fossil fuels that will cause more climate change and even Government and the frackers admit is unlikely to lower our bills.
"We want Merton Council to oppose fracking and we want the Government to get behind renewables and energy saving instead."
The event was part of a worldwide day of action involving more than 26 countries.
