Three men suspected of ramming into a police car were arrested after a patrol officer noticed a three-legged dog.

Police signalled for a van carrying three men and a dog to pull over in the Tulse Hill estate last night, after becoming suspicious of their involvement in the theft of mopeds.

As the unmarked police car with blue flashing lights pulled up behind the van on Cherry Close, the van rammed into the police vehicle multiple times, injuring the two officers inside.

The men in the van tried to escape along Brixton Hill - again ramming the police car.

The three men with their dog abandoned the van in St Saviours Road and fled on foot.

An hour later, a patrol officer spotted a similar three-legged black dog in a blue Nissan car containing three men and noted that this vehicle was registered to the same owner as the van.

Backup was called and the men, aged 18, 42 and 67, were arrested.

None of the officers were seriously injured during the incident.
