A chef at a Whytleafe restaurant won a regional culinary award hosted at a top London hotel attended by MPs and celebrities.

Muslim Miah, of the Royal Tandoori in Godston Road, received the Bangladesh Caterers Association’s (BCA) Surrey and South East Chef of the Year award at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel.

The 8th annual award, held on November 3, was co-hosted by television presenter Tasmin Lucia Khan and actor and comedian Kulvinder Ghir.

Over 1,000 people attended the awards, including dignitaries from across the country such as Secretary of state for local communities Eric Pickles and Mayor of Croydon Yvette Hopley.

A spokesman for the BCA said: “It allowed us to really celebrate the UK’s leading curry industries entrepreneurs.”

The BCA is an umbrella organisation established in 1960 to represent the Catering Industry run by the ethnic Bangladeshis.

Mr Miah has worked at the Royal Tandoori for 30 years.
