It was a busy night for firefighters across Croydon last night which included blazes at a hotel and a garage.

Firefighters at New Addington fire station were called to blaze in the open land opposite Lodge Lane, where an agricultural buggy had been set alight.

Both appliances from the station attended the incident at about 2am and used water backpacks to extinguish the blaze, as they could not reach the fire with a hose.

The incident has been reported to the police.

Crews at Woodside fire station attended a garage fire at 4.30am on Chaffinch Avenue in Shirley.

The garage full of personal items was 50 per cent damaged in the fire but no one was injured.

Two appliances from Croydon fire station were called to the hotel at 6am, where firefighters discovered a melted light fitting.

The crew spent about 40 minutes at the scene removing the damaged light fitting and making the area safe. No-one was injured in the incident.
