Christmas would not be the same without a carol concert and one of the country’s leading composers is conducting a festive celebration to remember.

John Rutter and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be making sure everyone is well and truly in the Christmas spirit with an evening of carolling.

The composer and conductor will be conducting a popular selection of Christmas carols for all the audience, including O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark! Herald Angels Sing and many more.

Rutter will also be conducting some choral pieces, featuring the Farnham Youth Choir, and some orchestral works.

The 68-year-old has three Christmas albums to his name and has sold out numerous venues including the Royal Albert Hall.

It is the first time Rutter has returned to Fairfield Halls since a performance in 1974.

He says: "It is a traditional family style concert. I was surprised to see there wasn’t many others like this at Fairfield Halls so I am looking forward to coming along.

"It is not quite the same as the Royal Albert Hall performance as we have a different choir. But I have really fond memories of Fairfield Hall from way back in 1974.

"The Trinity School performed an opera I wrote about Guy Fawkes and I was there for the performances and I remember thinking what a fine hall it is.

"So when I was asked to do this performance I was more than happy to do it."

He continues: "We will have singing from the Farnham Youth Choir and of course the audience. People tend to enjoy the singing as it isn’t you get to do carolling like this.

"The mix we have put together I think really kicks off the festive season with a bang. The ingredients are all in place and all I have to do is stir the Christmas pudding on December 14."

He adds: "I have been involved with the music of Christmas since I started out and my first song, The Shepherds Pipe Carol, was published in 1967 and I still get requests for it.

"It is a thread that runs through my life and I am happy with that as it is a very happy and joyful time of year."
