The funeral of a man who died two years after a violent assault will take place today in Leatherhead.

Mark Haley, who lived in Holmwood Avenue, Chessington, was attacked by neighbour Michael Broom outside Tesco in Hook Parade on August 21, 2011.

Broom, of Rhodrons Avenue, was sentenced to three years in prison in November 2011, after admitting grievous bodily harm without intent.

He slipped into a coma and died two years later on August 28 this year, prompting a fresh manslaughter investigation.

Mr Haley's body was only released to the family last week because of the police involvement centring around medical tests into how whether his death was directly caused by Broom.

Mr Haley's funeral will take place at Randalls Park Crematorium at 3.30pm with family flowers only.

The family asked for any donations to be made to the Royal Hospital for Neuro Disability in Putney, which cared for Mark before he died.

Any donations should be made care of Andrew Holmes & Son, 19 Ace Parade, Hook Road, Chessington.
