A vulnerable vehicle initiative was carried out in the borough by Surrey Police last week.
Alongside colleagues from the Elmbridge Community Safety Partnership and officers from Elmbridge Council, police conducted an evening patrol on Wednesday, November 6.
During the two hour event, 64 unsecured vehicles were found, including a high-value sports car and vehicles on a driveway at a property where neighbours had previously suffered a car key burglary.
Officers spoke to vehicle owners and have them advice on small measure which can help motorists avoid becoming victims of crime.
Peter Kipps, Elmbridge Community Safety Partnership manager, said: “Vehicle crime accounts for more than 10 per cent of all reported crime and this exercise shows that there are still too many owners making it easy for criminals to operate.
“Crime has fallen every year in the past five years but clearly there is still more that could be achieved by taking a little more care.”
