A 20-year-old who was caught selling drugs on CCTV has been jailed for nearly six years.

Jeremiah Johnson, of Walnut Road, Waltham Forest, sold cocaine and cannabis in Croydon and Greenwich and also injured a police officer while resisting arrest.

He was arrested on February 1 after operators in Croydon Council's CCTV control room spotted him selling drugs outside West Croydon rail station alerted police.

Officers traced him to nearby Derby Road, where he was detained in a garden following a short chase on foot.

Johnson was searched and found to be in possession of cocaine and herbal cannabis.

Despite Johnson lying about his name, officers established his identity and that he was wanted in connection to two incidents in Greenwich in December.

On December 3, Johnson had escaped from police who stopped him while driving. Officers found several bags of cannabis and £270 inside his car, along with cocaine hidden in a cigarette box.

Two days earlier, in Charlton, he had been stopped in the same car but lied about his identity because he had been disqualified from driving for six months.

On February 19, officers from the Metropolitan Police's Violent and Organised Crime Unit found Johnson while searching an address in Lewisham.

They found class A and B drugs as well as drugs paraphernalia and arrested Johnson, along with four other people, on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

Two months later, he was again arrested when police caught him driving with no insurance and or valid driving licence.

He fled, but was arrested again three days later, when a police officer broke a finger while detaining him. Officers also found cannabis hidden in his clothes.

Johnson was charged with a string of drugs and driving offences, to which he pleaded guilty on November 6.

He was jailed for five years and ten months

A 20-year-old drug dealer has been jailed for five years 10 months after being convicted of supplying class A and B drugs in Croydon and Greenwich.

Detective constable Laura Hills, of the Greenwich Violent and Organised Crime Unit, said: "Johnson was clearly involved in drug dealing in both Croydon and Greenwich and despite his repeated attempts of trying to evade arrest and giving police false details, he now faces a considerable time behind bars.

"Those who deal drugs cause significant harm to our communities and we will continue to target those individuals that are involved in this.

"If you have concerns or suspect drug dealing in your local area then you can contact us or Crimestoppers, which is completely anonymous and we will take positive action to identify, arrest and convict those responsible as we have done with Johnson.”

Anyone with concerns about the presence of drugs in their neighbourhood can contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
