A Hersham judoka has his sights set on representing Great Britain in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2015.
Liam Duhig, 26, of Newlands Close, came away with a silver medal at the Hampshire special needs judo competition on Sunday, November 10, and now hopes to be selected for the team travelling to Los Angeles in two years.
Judokas from across the south of England, some 300 athletes, lined up for a short service of remembrance prior to the completion, with the Union flag lowered for the two minute silence.
In the hard-fought competition, Liam won some of his matches with a throw to scores the maximum number of points, giving him an automatic win.
Liam’s father, Terry Duhig, said: “We are very pleased with Liam’s result, he had a very hard tournament and in order to compete in this one he had to compete a couple of weight groups heavier than himself, which makes his achievement all the better.”
