I am writing to express my concerns about the Mayor of London's allocation of funding to the London Borough of Sutton.

Every year the Mayor receives requests from London boroughs to fund traffic calming and road schemes.

Sadly the boroughs do not hold these budgets themselves but have to apply to Transport for London and the Mayor who allocates the funds (known as LIP funding).

Along with other London leaders, I had heard that this LIP funding will be cut by 25 per cent next April. I wrote to the Mayor in September, asking him to confirm and have still not received a reply. Two other London leaders are also waiting for a response.

At a recent Sutton Council meeting a Conservative councillor announced that the LIP funding will not be cut. Yet when I challenged the Mayor at a subsequent meeting to confirm this, he refused to reply.

Boris Johnson needs to come clean and let us know what he plans to do. There are important road schemes across London that need to be funded and the Mayor needs to make up his mind so we can plan our budgets for next year.

Either he is cutting LIP funding or he isn't - we need to know.

Councillor Ruth Dombey; Leader of Sutton Council
